PACE: Malaria Project

Under a new global fund grant, PACE has been subcontracted to manage the private-sector ACT (malarial combination treatment) distribution through its network of 100 private clinics and 40 community-based organisations.

Pepal private-sector partners will work with the PACE team to develop:

A model for strengthened forecasting, quantification, distribution, and quality assurance of life saving ACT through the private sector in Uganda.

Strategies for the introduction of malaria rapid diagnostic test kits in the private sector.

PACE: Mobile Phone Project

The rapid growth of mobile phone uptake in Uganda, particularly among rural low-income populations, has created the potential to transform healthcare solutions by accelerating the collection, storage, organisation and broadcast of information in real time.

Pepal private-sector partners will work with the PACE team to develop:

  • an operational strategy to launch and pilot the prototype in Uganda

MSU: Health Voucher Scheme Project

MSU plans to introduce the first Family Planning Voucher Scheme into Uganda, enabling it to deliver family planning services to those most in need, particularly in rural areas. The Family Planning Voucher Scheme will provide low wealth women with subsidized access to family planning and maternal health services

Pepal private-sector partners will work with the MSU team to:

  •  develop a business, implementation and communication plan for the Family Planning Voucher     Scheme and pilot its launch
  •    pilot the launch of the scheme in one geographic region
  •    integrate existing schemes into the new scheme

NACWOLA: Agri-business Project

NACWOLA would like to develop and pilot mechanisms which will bring business skills and ultimately, food and security to women living with HIV and their families in rural Uganda. This would improve women’s ability to access life-saving treatment and services, and empower them to better understand and assert their rights.

Pepal private-sector partners will work with the NACWOLA team to:

  •  examine at existing models of income generation and microfinance identifying best practices
  •  analyse business opportunities
  •  drawing upon resources available within the community, devise a sustainable and scalable    business model for a pilot agri-business initiative in a district/village in Northern Uganda
  •  explore opportunities to collaborate with local businesses and other commercial partners

UNDF: Community Systems Strengthening Project

The Uganda National Discourse Forum is developing model programming initiatives to ensure that voices and needs of communities within the Nile Basin are being heard and addressed against the backdrop of large national projects, such as the  government-planned construction of a number of hydro-electric in the next 5 years, which may affect their livelihoods.

Pepal private-sector partners will work with the UNDF team to:

  •  analyze and document the socio-economic cost of planned government developments in the Nile basin
  • document a model programme initiative covering the impact of: changes in natural river hydrology on the ecology of natural floodplain environment; on food security, ensuring continuous yields all year round, including improving value-chain and boosting export; and flooding.
