Julie Saunders is the Executive Director and Founder of Pepal Ltd set-up in 2009, to design and deliver life-changing executive development programmes that partner international executives with NGO leaders to achieve sustainable social change in developing countries. Previously, she worked for 10 years as Director: Finance and Corporate Services at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance), an international not-for-profit organisation. During her time at the Alliance, she played an instrumental role in the growth of the organisation from a small niche player to the largest HIV/AIDS organisation in Europe with operations in 40 countries.

Julie began her career as an economist with the UK government and then with DRI Inc based in Paris. Subsequently, she worked in investment banking and consulting before becoming an economic and financial adviser to privatisation programmes in Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, managing EC funded technical support programmes. Julie is a qualified accountant, has economics degrees from the London School of Economics (MSc) and Cambridge University (MA/BA), and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD. Julie’s mother tongue is English and she has a good working knowledge of French and Bulgarian with some knowledge of Russian. 

Victoria Brown
Operations Officer

Victoria Brown is the Operations Officer at Pepal. She studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute at undergraduate level and recently completed a law degree at the College of Law in London. Victoria was born in Hong Kong and speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, German and French. 


Arnab Majumdar
Programme Co-ordinator: Uganda  

Arnab Majumdar is Programme Coordinator in Uganda for Pepal. He recently completed an MSc in Urbanisation & Development from LSE, where he focused on gender and development approaches, youth unemployment, and violence in India, as well as housing policy and foreign aid strategies in Sub-Saharan Africa. At Pepal, Arnab helps to manage leadership programmes and is based at the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS), where he leads a social marketing project aimed at increasing donor recruitment for much-needed blood supplies in the country.

Arnab brings experience in microfinance, having served as growth engineer for Prime Trust, a Pondicherry MFI, where he mobilized domestic loans and funding, reformed financial and accountability structures, and ran HIV/AIDS awareness programs for SHGs; environmental activism, interning with Greenpeace International; and experience coordinating local Meals on Wheels programs. He maintains significant interests in journalism, music, and creative writing, and has lived in Canada, India, UK, and the Netherlands. Arnab speaks fluent French and intermediate Bengali.

Laura Nurse
Programme Co-ordinator: India  

Laura Nurse is Project Coordinator in India for Pepal.  She has recently completed an MSc in Development Studies from London School of Economics where her work focused particularly on demography and maternal health in both India and South America.  Prior to this Laura acquired experience in the corporate sector through a Graduate Management Trainee programme with a multinational FMCG and undergraduate studies in International Management and Spanish from the University of Bath.  In addition she has experience in several NGOs working with women and children such as the Baytree Centre London and the Spanish Red Cross as well as an organisational change internship at Cancer Research UK. She speaks fluent Spanish, intermediate French and is now studying beginner Tamil.


Poonam Gohil
Intern

Poonam Gohil is an Intern for Pepal.  She has completed an MSC Health Policy from the London School of Economics where her work focused on health systems and economics. Prior to this Poonam acquired experience in the public sector through a graduate trainee programme at the Ministry of Health and an Internship at the National Hospital Insurance Fund in Nairobi, Kenya.   She speaks fluent Kiswahili, Gujarati and Hindi and is now studying beginner Spanish.  Poonam has lived in Dubai, India, Kenya and UK.

Ousmane Amadou Sy
Associate Consultant

Ousmane Sy graduated from the Higher Institute of Management at Dakar University in 1998 with a degree in Finance and Accounting, he has worked in the civil society sector ever since. He was Finance and Administration Coordinator of Alliance Nationale Contre le Sida (ANCS) for more than 7 years and played an instrumental role in helping ANCS become the largest HIV/AIDS organisation in Senegal. In 2006 he joined the International HIV/AIDS Alliance headquarters in the UK, where he worked as Senior Finance Officer until June 2009.

Ousmane has more than 10 years extensive experience in providing financial and organisational technical support to civil society organisations across Africa and has supported many USAID and Global Fund programmes throughout the continent. He has also worked on external assignments with the UNAIDS Technical Support Facility in East Africa. As a founding and existing board member of many community organisations in both Senegal and the UK, Ousmane is a passionate advocate for communities and local development.
