Jon Cooper
Trustee, Pepal Foundation 
 

Jon Cooper joined the board of Pepal Foundation in September 2009. Most recently Jon has worked as Regional Adviser in the South Asia and Middle East team of Marie Stopes International, a global sexual and reproductive health rights NGO. Just prior to joining Marie Stopes International, Jon spent 5 years at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, the HIV civil society organisation operating in 40 countries worldwide, setting up and leading its legal, audit, risk and security functions. At the Alliance, he was involved in governance and organisational development work in Sudan, Cote D’Ivoire, Thailand, Ukraine and Zambia – creating an innovative template for organisational transition with USAID.  Prior to that, he led the legal and risk team at the NSPCC. He also managed functions at the TUI Travel Group and spent time in the City with the Financial Services Authority. Jon will be moving with Marie Stopes International to Kampala as Country Director of its Uganda social marketing, refugee and clinical programmes in January 2010.

 

Dr Banu Golesorkhi
Director, Pepal Limited 
 

Dr Banu Golesorkhi joined the board of Pepal Ltd in 2011. She is the Director of Research at Pharos International in Brussels, Belgium and is responsible for the design and implementation of client-commissioned research projects dealing with human dimensions of business globalisation. Banu also teaches courses on Intercultural Management and Global Mobility for IFL Stockholm School of Economics, Vlerick Leuven Gent Business School and Antwerp Management School’s Executive MBA programme. Banu has a Doctorate, with distinction, from the George Washington University in Organisational and Human Development. She also has a Masters degree in Sociology and a Bachelors degree in Human Ecology. She was born in Iran and educated in Switzerland and the United States. She is currently learning to play the piano.

 

Dr Andriy Klepikov
Trustee, Pepal Foundation

Dr Klepikov joined the board of Pepal Foundation in September 2009. He is the Executive director of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine, the largest HIV/AIDS-focused organization in the country and one of the largest in Eurasia. Prior to working at the Alliance, he was a Senior program manager at the International Renaissance Foundation (George Soros’ foundation in Ukraine), where he was responsible for supervising the overall program activities. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy in Ukraine and did his Post-Doctoral Study in Sociology in the New School for Social Research, New York. In October, he recently successfully completed the 15 month business education program, International Masters in Practicing Management which is jointly run by five business schools: INSEAD (France); McGill University (Canada); India Institute of Management (Bangalore);Lancaster University (UK); and a group of business schools in Japan and Korea.

 

Julie Saunders
Executive Director, Pepal Ltd

Julie is the Executive Director of Pepal Ltd. For 10 years she worked at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, an international not-for-profit organisation as Director of Corporate Services. During her time at the Alliance, she played an instrumental role in the growth of the organisation from a small niche player to the largest HIV/AIDS organisation in Europe with operations in 40 countries. She initially began work as an economist with the UK government and then with DRI Inc based in Paris. Previous experience includes work as an economic and financial adviser to privatisation programmes in Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan managing EC funded technical support programmes. Julie is a trained economist and qualified accountant with degrees from the London School of Economics (MSc), Cambridge University (MA/BA) and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.

 

Jane Smith
Director, Pepal Ltd

Jane Smith joined the board of Pepal Ltd in 2011. Jane started her career at the BBC and since then has spent many years in the International NGO and charity sector, most recently as Chief Finance Officer at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, a charity that works to combat HIV and AIDS in developing countries. Jane is a law graduate and a CCAB qualified accountant. She also has an MBA. In addition to this she has published research and taught at Strathclyde University.

 

Jane Waterman
Trustee, Pepal Foundation


Jane Waterman oversees IAVI’s operations and activities across 10 European countries and the European Union institutions. A member of IAVI’s Senior Management Team, she guides IAVI’s programs in Europe, covering advocacy and policy research, resource mobilization, communications and media relations. Jane has a wealth of experience in resource and policy development for HIV/AIDS programs and technical knowledge of gender and development issues. She was previously on the senior management team of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, a global network of national organizations that provide financial and technical support to community-based organizations in more than 40 countries. As director of external relations at the Alliance, she was responsible for raising the profile of the organization, developing and managing its fundraising and communication strategies, and maintaining the organization’s relationship with corporate, philanthropic and government donors. Prior to joining the Alliance in 2004, Jane worked in resource mobilization at the International Planned Parenthood Federation. She spent time in sub-Saharan Africa between 1987 and 1993, initially as a VSO volunteer and then with the British Council.  She has a Master’s degree in Gender and Development, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Certificate in Fundraising Management. Jane also attended the United Kingdom Cabinet Office/Henley Business School Top Management Programme.
